In a letter sent by County Agent J.T. Stovall to Regional Director of the Civilian Conservation Corps H.H. Finnell responding to a telegram asking if Ochiltree County would be agreeable to a “colored” CCC company working there: %u201CPerryton and Ochiltree County have an Unwritten Law that prevents the use of Negroes in any form of labor, and no colored people spend the night in this county.%u201D This letter was sent on June 22, 1935.
