A student at the University of Illinois at Chicago said you had to be a white Christian to purchase property in Park Ridge.

Historically, it is believed that the steadily low black population could be attributed to in-house servants.

A woman once stated that her father hired a black woman writer for the Methodist magazine he edited and “The town was up in arms!” in 1967. She wanted to move in but the town wouldn’t hear of it. then the Lutheran General Hospital hired Filipino nurses, leading to another hue and cry.
